The Hobbyist

Without any doubt, I’m spending most of my few free time thinking about the radio, focusing especially on Civil Protection activities; I gained an amateur radio licence in 2005, with the international call sign IW0SAB. It was a thrawback to my youth, to the Electronics School that I attended and my first working experience at Research & Development Labs of Telettra, glorious and pioneering Italian company (acquired few years later by Alcatel) specialized in Telecommunication Technologies, where I became confident with frequency spectrum, Digital Signal Processors  and related systems. Member of Italian Amateur Radio Association CISAR, in 2010 I was appointed National Manager of “CisarNet“, the WiFi digital network project of CISAR, including also the role of coordinator of 44.162.0.0/16 IP addresses  reserved to CisarNet project inside ampr.org initiative. At the moment the same roles are in charge of my friend Gian Leonardo Solazzi, and I’m still involved in the management of the CisarNet. Cisar still hold the world record of the longest WiFi radio amateur permanent link of 304 Km at 5.7 Ghz, obtained in 2007 between Limbara Mount in Sardinia and Amiata Mount in Tuscany. Thanks to this project, which was linked to Civil Protection activities and thanks to the work of all my friends of CISAR Association involved in the project, I took an enormous satisfaction in winning a medal at the ComputerWorld Honours Program in June 2011, at Washington D.C…Unforgettable memories…

Vice President in my city’s Radio Club “CISAR Gubbio – Sezione Fausto Regni” and same role in the regional Civil Protection Association “CISAR Umbria“, at the beginning of 2015 I was nominated to be part of “Consulta Regionale del Volontariato di Protezione Civile” of Umbria Region, as Member of he Board. I was recently rielected inside the same Committee, with the role of Chairman.

Moreover, I like to read thriller/action books (Tom Clancy was my preferred author) and walking. Unfortunatly my herniated disc problems mean that I cannot play football and tennis anymore :-(, the sports that I used to practice. Motor races excite me; I’m involved in ICT support of San Marino Republic Round of MotoGP at the Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli” and still have the privilege to live these events  in first person. Also, I like listening to pop music and when I was young I used to play some instruments such as clarinet Bb, even if I also tried playing classic guitar and piano with poor results. Now, after 25 years, to support my daughter and son, I started playing clarinet again in a local concert band in which they play.
